[Hated trope] The powerhouse of the team being buried by a new villain

Thanos beating down Hulk so badly he doesn’t show up for the rest of the movie (Avengers Infinity War)

Shadow incapacitating Knuckles with ease in Japan (Sonic the Hedgehog 3)

This trope can be very effective and I’ve probably chosen two better examples, but more often that not it sucks for ruining the powerhouse’s reputation, seeming cheap or an unserious villain doing it.
