Theater is one of the most important and beneficial classes a person can take
I understand that as someone who does theater this is an extremely biased take of mine. However, I truly believe theater classes are very beneficial for students, even if they don’t plan on doing theater-related work in the future. Here’s some reasoning:
-theater teaches you teamwork (acting with others in a scene) and communication with your peers for the benefit of the team
-theater is great to teach students how to speak in a public setting, as a lot of jobs require talking in front of a group (business meetings, sales pitches, customer service, etc.)
-taking theater classes boosted my reading comprehension tenfold compared to regular English classes, because I had to figure out the motivation of the characters as well as what they meant word-wise
-theater requires a lot of bravery and helps students get over stage fright, taking risks, trying new things, etc.
-theater teaches people how to behave in social settings, as well as how to mask emotions (EXTREMELY helpful at my minimum wage job lmao)
All in all, while theater might not seem like a practical career choice, it’s incredibly helpful in everyday life and I recommend everyone take at least one theater class.
