Places that are overlooked due to schools?

Simple question for the community: Where are some places in the US that are typically passed up as great places to live simply because of "poor schools"? Or even "less-than-amazing" schools?

Take the Boston area: It seems to me like part of why it is so obscenely expensive there is the combination of good urban amenities with AMAZING schools. Thus, wealthy families flock there in droves. What are some examples of great places if you don't care about schools? Or do you think good school systems are more so an outcome of the things that make a place great otherwise?
