Good schools but not pretentious?

Our family is moving to the Rochester area from The South. We’ve been doing a lot of research but still it’s hard to know without being there. Which suburb/neighborhood has good schools but isn’t too pretentious? We love progressive, LGBTQ+ friendly, diverse communities but putting our son in the best possible public schools is important to us as well. I really don’t want to live next door to a Trump supporter and we want to feel completely safe. Can anyone point us in the right direction?
