A post of appreciation...
For some backstory, I never played smash (or melee or any variation) but I have played rushdown, nasb 1 and 2 and, most recently, MVS. I very much enjoyed MVS. The IP, the gameplay was fun and I was fairly good with a couple of characters.
I bought Rivals 2 when it first came out but I didn't really like it, so I put it on the shelf. When MVS announced they would be closing at the end of the current season, I decided to give Rivals another shot. Now it is one of my favorites and I spend a good deal of time trying to get better.
Yesterday, I realized I hadn't played MVS in about two weeks so I decided to go back and play a few rounds. And Rivals has completely ruined that game for me. It is soooo SSSLLLLOOOWWW. The movement, the active frames, everything about it seems dull in comparison now.
One of the biggest differences, and the reason for this post of appreciation, is that none of the characters in Rivals feels so slow that they can't be viable. Every single character has been well thought out, even if some might need tweaking here and there. Even though some characters are just faster in general, none of them are so slow that they don't stand a chance. In MVS, some characters are just useless and it hurts to even play them
So... a round of applause to the dev team for putting thought and consideration into each character and making me forget about ever playing MVS again :D
