Moving to RGV

I'm (33M) seeking places to live outside of the South Florida scene due to the insane housing market here. I have a decent paying (secure) remote job, and have been considering the McAllen area heavily. I do not speak Spanish, though not opposed to learning. Looking for some sincere pro's and con's and general quality of life comments as I do not know anyone in the Valley. Any insight and honesty would be greatly appreciated! I'm not a huge nature person, however I do enjoy skateboarding and dirt-bikes.
