Hot Take: Nixon was the one of the worst Presidents ever.
Almost every single aspect of the Nixon administration was a complete failure. For example, opening up China looks like a good idea on the surface, it opened up to more trade and made cost of goods go down over all, however, this has caused way more problems as of 2025 then it has solved. For example, it has caused several American businesses to go bankrupt and workers to lose their jobs as big business turns to cheaper labor in China. In addition, this has caused China to become a world power which allows {certain politicians} to use it to justify tons of legislation. China is a US enemy and making it a world power is over all a negative.
Ending Vietnam, another thing that looks good on paper. But the second you look more in depth you just discover war crime after war crime. He allowed Pol Pot to take power by his bombing of Cambodia (killing millions), absolutely destroying Laos with his bombing there, and still taking forever to get troops out of Vietnam (and increasing the war crimes taking place there).
Nixons economic policies directly caused the Stagflation of the 70s (which helped cause even more problems in the future), he was famously corrupt (just look at Watergate), and his drunkenness during his Presidency almost led to a war with North Korea. In addition, he was a pretty shitty person personally, being very paranoid and just a dick to everyone he was around. There is also the most likely fact that Nixon beat his wife so bad that she was rushed to the emergency room.
Yeah, in conclusion, Nixon was one of the worst Presidents in American history. The few good things he’s done pale in comparison to the countless atrocities he committed. He should have been tried for war crimes and his involvement in Watergate.
