Flat above flood/leaks - am I asking for the impossible?
I live in a Victorian/Edwardian ground flat in south London. The property is split into 3 flats- ground, middle, and top. They were split like this, poorly so, in the 50s by the council.
Acoustically, they’re a nightmare. So am looking into getting an acoustic specialist in to quieten the footsteps being carried from the floor above down into our ceiling. I’m anticipating it will involve costly alterations to our ceilings (decoupling, insulation, another layer added etc).
Last year, the middle flat/flat above accidentally had a bathroom leak. Not an overflowing bath, just a random leak. Luckily their bathroom lies above the communal hall space. But I’m concerned about future possible leaks (of their radiators, kitchen sink, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer) into our new acoustic ceilings when they’re done.
Is there any method, valve, item that can be put in place in our ceiling, or their appliances that can either help prevent it from happening?
Or am I asking for an impossible miracle product that doesn’t exist?
Thank you in advance!
