Are reaction youtubers beneficial to the creators they react to?

I feel like we've discussed this a lot in recent times, particularly in relation to sssniperwolf, but I'm seeing a lot of reaction content on youtube shorts and looked into it more. The youtuber I was looking into regularly reacts to other artists content, I only investigated videos where he reacted to one specific artists videos as to not be comparing analytics all day

The artist averages 3-5k views per video, not bad, but this person most often gets around 4k views per video- I've found numerous instances where his videos get 2,3, 5, 10 times the amount of views the original does. The artists name couldn't be found in the title, he never says it nor displays their username in the video, it's only in the description (which based on a google search, people dont seem to have realised you can see in shorts).

Upon telling the artist this, they were unhappy about their situation and were looking into options. I also brought this up with the reactor, who claimed some of the following statements:

- It got the original video more traffic (it didn't, the artist's views averaged the same in months where there was no reaction as when there was a reaction)

- It was fair use (they described the video and that was the extent of their commentary)

- credit DOESNT have to be given because it's fair use (???)

- Putting links or the artists username in the title/video clutters it

- his video "Getting more views is good for the original because it drives more traffic to it"

Are reaction videos actually beneficial to anyone they react to?? because it doesn't seem to actually be doing anything in terms of the views or subscribers the original creator gets
