Why don't Dems ever run a candidate from Cincinnati or Columbus in a federal statewide race?

Every senate candidate since 1998 Dems have ran has been from Northern Ohio or Appalachian Ohio..

I know Sherrod Brown has been the only successful candidate from Northern Ohio, but why don't Dems try something different like running Dems from Columbus or Cincinnati? It's like repeating the same thing and expecting a different result.

Are Dems afraid that running a candidate from Columbus and Cincinnati would alienate WWC voters in Applalachian/Northern Ohio? Or are they simply incompetent?
