Umay with My Generations Salary Expectations
Just wanted to vent how unrealistic most people are sa Gen Z nowadays. Feels like everyone na lng is "6 digits dapat sweldo ko", "30k-40k is so low", or "I would never settle for just 50k".
Grabe it seems they are so hell bent na bare minimum na ang 6 digits or close to that for a life or career to be considered successful. I mean I support going for the bag but doesn't this type of standard kinda set up you for a big spiral kasi what if you don't get that 6 digits? considering only roughly around 6% of Filipino households are earning 80k-120k up as per PDIS statistics.
As a Gen Z, it is exhausting to hear them. Yes, I don't earn 6 digits but it has never been my end all goal naman. But parang its frustrating how ungrounded or out of touch my generation is from the truth.
\Edit: I support and acknowledge that it is definitely better that people demand for more livable wages. Kahit even more pa nga eh, to a certain point ofcourse. However, being out of touch from our country's reality creates a mindset for the younger generation that is really dangerous.*
Imagine the trend being 40k is unliveable or "low ball"??? 40k? Lowball? Sobrang out of touch naman. Paano pa kaya mga magsasaka naten and such? Also on the belief that for you to become more rich, someone else will definitely become poorer. Hindi naman dumadami lng ang pera, it will be taken somewhere else. For someone to get paid more, someone else will be exploited. At some point, you don't really need 150k as a salary (individually) to live comfortably in the Philippines. Masyado lng tayo kinaen ng consumerism and scarcity mindset.
\*Edit 2: Again, I am all for chasing the bag and for pushing better wages overall too. What I am sick of is how so fixated my generation is with money being the main factor for having a fulfilled life. This isn’t anti-money — financial stability matters! The toxicity lies in making it the sole measure of a life well-lived. Hedoic Treadmill lng yan, you get so fixated on earning huge amounts of money that when you get there, you will just end up wanting more until eventually your body collapses as it can no longer handle all the work you're doing. Why did this happen? because society has become fixated on wealth as the parameter for success and fulfillment in life.*
