Doctors appointments

Just wondering how others handle doctor's appointments. I usually wait at home until they come back from the appointment but sometimes they are late and several times they come back at 4:30 when I leave at 5:00. Once I went home because I live within walking distance and she said their eta was 4:30 I had to go back for a 1/2 hour so ridiculous. Does anyone else stay or do you end your day early if the appointments are at 2:00-2:30?
