Is light bowgun kinda bad?

I was having truble dealing with anjanath with the starter Jagras blade, killing them right at the end of the match, so when I was able to Craft a jyuratodus weapon I thougt It would help me deal more damage. I decided to use the bowgun, but now I find myself with a grade 3 weapon that has lesser dps than the grade 2 Jagras blade. Am I missimg something?
