1600 to almost 2200mmr with ray spam every game
ive been making a few posts as ive been playing mechabellum alot for the past few months, been pretty much stuck at 1600-1700 for the longest time, but now after rays have been released and even after the cloak nerf, i've slowly been refining my ray spam strategy and now i am almost at 2200mmr. mind you i am not good with certain units that the pros use like mass worms or mass boats. im basically just a 1700mmr player but with rays im now almost 2200. i'm as surprised as anyone is because before when i got matched with someone 1900-2000 i'd almost just want to quit but now its like taking candy from a baby. unless the opponent reacts immediately with the correct counter it's gg. - to be clear i go mass rays 90%+ of games, and heres my strat
ray techs: cloak , shield, armor, missile spam
i play 100% standard, and always position my rays the same, around 4 squares from the back with the crawlers slightly in front. all in one line, kind of like how tank players position their tanks.
- try to skip the 2nd round drop even if the card is good and get that extra +50 for the 450 to unlock and get 2 rays. sometimes you will win this round, sometimes not, it doesnt matter much.
- then keep getting 2x rays per round and add in cloak asap, sometimes ill get 2 rays on round 3, and then go cloak on round 4, but dont get more than 3-4 rays without cloak. always upgrade your rays thats the most important thing.
- obviously make sure you add some chaff and also position the rays on your flanks, not just where the aggro opponent is targeting because they will be sneaky.
- once you have around 4-6 rays (round 4-5), borrow and get the 2nd tech - shields and get 2 more rays, now you are hard committed into rays, but you will have a huge power spike from your 4 non shield rays into 6 shielded rays, which is a 3x of your health pool (even more because of the nature of shields)
- always use oil when you have some free money and get ready to ignite the oil if needed, vulcan drops are your friend, and you can always use storm fire or fire badgers, its very important to help clear the chaff if youre rays are getting killed while stuck on chaff
- always go for the typhoon or similar chaff clearers, your goal is to have your rays keep leveling as that coupled with the shields will make them unkillable. if you lose too many rounds in a row, even mediocre counters like marksman will be too outleveled and you can't win.
- if the opponent goes into typhoon or mustang or fangs, click the armor tech. i never click the armor tech unless most the damage is coming from those units. it is a mistake to go into those counters when armor is available, but plenty of 2000mmr try this and lose badly.
- if they go AA wasps, go AA mustangs, if they go hard AA wasps, go AA+range mustangs, make sure to shield around them in case they decide to go fire.
- if they go aa stangs, use fire either via vulcans or storms
- if they go mass farsier, go anti missile mustangs
- i find that my ultimate composition goal is to get 4 vulcans with the firebomb + fuel bomb to set the whole board on fire.
- always go for the card that gives you more placements, your goal is to mass so much rays they become both unkillable chaff / chaff clearers / medium+giant killers. they are truly the one thing that does it all.
- if the aggro opponent is killing you hard and destroying your bases, level up your bases to 3 and then 4 if possible while only building more rays.
- if you see the counter of multimelters or mass forts, or if you see anti missile in the form of warfactory or others then click the missile salvo tech to counter that. but never go missile salvo unless you see tons of giants or AM because your rays are worse at clearing chaff with this tech, i have lost a game once accidentally clicking this.
- when your at 8-10+ rays with cloak and shield, you will want to get both the health and attack upgrades from the tower, personally i try to get the health upgrades first, because of the shield it basically gives you twice the value making your rays even more unkillable. think of your rays like tanks but they can get shields, its stupidly broke
- when in rounds 8+, and you can afford it, click on elite recruitment and extra placement so you start adding lvl 2 rays.
