Anyone found out how to use Phantom rays already?

Even though the unit has been released for a while now I still am still clueless on how to use it. It almost rolls over and dies to a pack of fangs and gets stuck on everything. As of now I have only found use for it to end a game by using burst fire to one-shot a high priority target.

Even though I've seen enough people complain about it being able to drop oil I've never seen the tech being used or seen a moment where I would want to use it.

I still don't get the unit or its use case and its expensive tech makes it hard to try anything with it without over investing.
