Steven Erikson writes great horses.

This might be a silly comment, but I only just started reading Malazan and it’s striking that horses behave like actual real life horses. I hope this isn’t just a fluke in the first book, because I think it gives a lovely realism and depth to the world. More fantasy authors should spend time around horses, these small details are great.
