Do you ever get over the trauma of infertility?
Trigger warning. I’m currently 16 weeks. After conceiving my first child naturally, when we tried for baby number two I got pregnant and had an ectopic, followed by a year and a half of unexplained infertility that included 4 medicated rounds of IUI followed by one round of IVF that yielded only one euploid (who magically stuck and I am unbelievably grateful for). I never really took time off during IVF except for a couple days after my egg retrieval. I’m already a fairly emotionally sensitive person, but IVF broke me open. I’m finding it difficult to get over the trauma I have been through. I see a perinatal counselor regularly. I get outside. I do meditation and yoga. I journal. It’s just hard to find time to heal when I am already a mom to a busy three year-old and work full-time. Part of me wants to ask my midwife to put me on medical leave so I can have some time to heal before this next baby gets here. But part of me doesn’t feel like it’s necessary because it’s in the past. Did you ever get over your infertility trauma?
