Fire Sales

I’ve been considering buying some gems because I don’t have a ton of time to grind coins with school. How do I decide what sales to buy? I see some of them go for 100s of millions, while others seem to be worth nothing for no apparent reason. So, should I even get a skin or should I wait for a nice sale.
