Is there now a chance that the Phantom Troupe didn’t kill the Kurta?
I’ve been letting HxH marinate for a while so I could have more chapters to read, so I’ve only recently read the troupe’s backstory, and I have to say, isn’t there a chance that it wasn’t them that did it?
Don’t get me wrong, if Chrollo believed that the massacre was necessary for their goal, they would absolutely do it. It’s just that now, we know that Chrollo actually wanting the eyes could be a lie, and knowing their goal, the Kurta clan massacre isn’t really necessary?
Even in the York New arc, the only ones that the troupe killed were affiliated with the mafia, and the civilians were left unharmed. Even the guy that Uvo killed in his own apartment was most likely a member of the mafia that Shalnark researched. It’s why Gon and Killua were left alive, and why the two civvies spying on Machi and Nobu were spared. They don’t care about collateral damage, but they haven’t gone out of their way to kill outsiders.
Most of the Kurta were civilians, and what Uvo said about them being strong could have been an on the spot act to keep the troupe’s image. Combine that fact with Machi and Paku having no memory of the Kurta clan despite supposedly participating in it, Paku’s men revolving around memories, and the way they said it of how they “remember such a clan existing,” it makes sense. From what we know of their backstory, Machi and Paku are the least likely to forget such an incident but they didn’t know of them. The only problem is how Omokage would fit in the equation…
Honestly I think Tserriednich did it for their eyes, since he has way too much of them for him to supposedly have bought it from the market after Chrollo sold them, and Chrollo decided to take the blame since the troupe’s name value would increase if he did so, and he could then strike fear of Meteor City into the average person.
