Coin vs the Prep team
I just realised, that Coin properly authorised the torture of the prep team because ‘whilst comforting’ to her as cinna suggested, they still prettied her up for death, without any sign of consternation about the games whatsoever- as Gale suggested to Katniss.
But the thing Coin didn’t account for was that Katniss would’s morality stretched beyond just herself and her people, it included absolutely everyone. Even if the Prep team didn’t oppose her going into the arena, they weren’t cruel people, just clueless.
She didn’t hate the capitol for being the capitol, she hated the specific people who knew what was happening, and were purposely cruel. She hated everyone who gave ‘their talents to the games’ she hated anyone who willingly participated.
But the prep team were innocent, just as the people in the Knut were innocent, and neither option she would agree to.
Coin was under the impression that because Katniss had suffered so much, her hatred would run so long and deep against the capitol, that anyone even remotely on the side of Snow would be on her automatic hit list, and that she was the face of the opposition of Snow, Katniss would automatically be on her side
Realising that Katniss was more broken than angry, and saw the shades of morality, instead of in black and white, she properly then realised that to get Katniss‘s support she either had to be dead or so completely consumed with rage towards the Capitol that she wouldn’t consider any other option.
Therefore: Prim. But i just realised the connection Coin must have made from the second she heard how Katniss responded to the prep team’s torture.
The prep team themselves represent the childlike ignorance that a society adopts when faced with tragedy, especially when their country is behind the horrible acts- because whilst it’s not a secret, they hid themselves from the truth, until their truth became their reality.
Sorry this might have been a really slow connection for me to have made 😂. What was everyone else’s thoughts on the prep team? did you like them?
