There's a crack in the plot that's bugging me

What do I mean by crack? Well, it's in no way a plot hole- it's perfectly well explained and kinda believable; it's just that the outcome of S2E11 feels a little... flimsy. And that "cracks" the plot, a bit. Lemme elaborate.

So, by rank, Stolas is (was) the 8th, 9th, or 10th most powerful being in all of hell. Goetian prince. Head of the natural-born royal family of hell. The exact rank depends on if Paimon is still alive, and where Charlie is at- but he's at most three steps below the sins. Not only that, but he's known them most of his life; even if that loving aunts/uncles headcanon isn't accurate- he was the heir to the throne as a child, on the throne as an adult, he would've at least been familiar with the sins (be we know he was at least comfortable enough to confide in Asmodeusa and ask Belphegor for who knows how many crates worth of antidepressants). What I'm getting at is: not only did he have a tremendous amount of political weight to wave around, he almost certainly knows how to deal with, or at least talk to the sins. It's not like Satan was some big scary unknown, yknow?

And I think exploiting hell's corruption would've worked perfectly well. He was the prince of hell. Not only was special treatment on the the table, it was inevitable. I mean the crime for literal (made up) treason is already a comparative slap on the wrist; admitting that he granted an imp permission to use a powerful artifact in exchange for some vague "favors" would've likely resulted in a punishment more akin to... two weeks probation. If absolutely necessary, Stolas still could've done the "following orders" shit without implicating himself in some imaginary coup plot. Nobody in that room gave two honest shits about their law system, they weren't gonna go out of their way to prod the facts, they just wanted to get this dumb little obligation over with- and there's no way he didn't know that.

Even if we set all this aside, Stolas was the purported victim here. He was uniquely the single person who could have dismantled the entire case, even if he wasn't the head of a royal family seated in a corrupt political system (which he still fucking was!).

Yes, he panicked. I get that. And yes, coming sorta clean would imply some truths he wouldn't want to get out. But the degree to which Stolas shit the bed here is absurd. Even considering the panic, the scandal, and his head not being in a great place... he's not a fucking idiot. It really feels like this happened solely for the sake of creating a new major problem- and that bugs me.
