Driving around the map in the Fully Regarded Vehicle
Spent my requisition, took my chances, been derping around on low difficulty maps figuring this out.
Overall the experience is enjoyable but unpolished. I am adding this stratagem to my zoomy SC farming build. The speed difference over even a light armor jetpack build is massive.
Complaints:
- Key bindings issue is so weird, how did they forget to let you rebind the WASD keys in the UI? I'm sure the intern is hard at work on this and will finish sooner or later.
- Yes, found the page with the keybindings file, I'm surprised it's really just 4 keys plus a gear selector.
- Yes, I tried smashing buttons for a good 10 minutes, couldn't find any others. Which brings me to:
- how do you switch positions in the car?
- in the BF games, you could press the function keys to move around to the various seating positions. Doesn't seem to be any equivalent to that here. Can you really not use the MG unless you have two or more people in the car?
- not being able to switch from driver to machine gunner holds the vehicle back for solo play
- haven't had great luck firing weapons out of the vehicle without team killing or being team killed. I think this is something that takes a bunch of practice or maybe it's just buggy.
But also good
- Now the good. The car is great for getting around maps super fast for gathering SC.
- I need to test more on higher difficulties but this thing can probably draw a huge amount of aggro driving past recon towers and patrols. The stuff that gets called in doesn't disappear.
- That being said, if the terrain isn't sand dunes or pavement, the car is extremely dangerous. Tiny knee high boulders you never paid attention to will now judo throw you into the moon if you don't respect them.
- I think that it is an intentional design feature that the car will kill you if you try to go maximum speed over non-optimal terrain.
- It seems like a lot of "hard" maps are actually navigable if you are decent at aiming the car and/or go slower.
- I've successfully driven through bad terrain bug nests and survived. You can squish a lot of stuff with the car like fences, decorations and small enemies.
- A lot of mountain type terrains have vehicle size gaps without boulders to allow you access to most of the map
