Need advice on helping a friend addicted to gambling
Throwaway account for personal reasons.
Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m really concerned about a close friend of mine (around 34 years old) who’s been struggling with a serious gambling addiction for a long time. He’s been gambling in casinos and on betting apps, and over time, he’s accumulated an enormous debt of over 2 crores. To make matters worse, his parents have sold off their land and drained their savings in an attempt to help him pay off some of this debt. Despite all of this, he’s still gambling and continues to lose money.
What’s even more concerning is that he isn’t accepting any responsibility for his actions. Instead of acknowledging his problem, he’s blaming his parents and has even started physically lashing out at them. He’s taken out multiple loans and stopped working months ago, so he’s no longer contributing financially to his life. His gambling addiction has completely taken over, and it's really hard to see him continue down this path.
I’m looking for advice on what can be done to help him. Does anyone know of support groups, therapy, or counseling programs that could help someone in this situation? I know addiction is tough, but it’s heartbreaking to watch him self-destruct and drag his family into the chaos.
Any suggestions or guidance would be really appreciated.
