The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton

Okay! Hear me out! Are you seriously telling me that Lorelai did not even have an extra pair of jeans lying around that she could wear to accompany Rory to Chilton? Now, I know you'll say that she was not planning on accompanying Rory to the headmaster's chambers but what if there was a serious need for her to get out of the car? This plot has never made sense to me.
