“The Big One” How scared should we be?

I live in Oregon, about 25 minutes from Portland. My worst fear in the entire world is the big one we’re supposed to have. If I think about it, it keeps me up at night. I have nightmares all the time about it.

I live in a house that was built in the 50’s, and it’s near a river. I know it couldn’t withstand a 9.0+ quake, and assuming the river would flood, everything I own will be gone. I worry that my family and I won’t have any chance at survival.

After seeing the news of the 7.0 quake in Northern California (December 5th), my gut is tells me it’s coming sooner than we hope. Didn’t the earthquake happen right on the fault line where the big one will take place?

I know nobody really knows what will happen. I’m just hoping that it’s not as bad as we’re predicting. I just want to know the reality of what this could look like.

My questions I have: - Does anyone know what the damage will look like? - How far inland will the tsunami go? I’ve heard everything left of I-5 will be ocean. - Will California be gone once it hits? - how will it affect Oregon/ the Portland area? - How far Inland would I need to move to be safe? I was thinking about moving to Sandy, OR, but it’s close to the river and not that far from Portland.
