Accidently paying car reg. TWICE

Yeah, I got antsy to meet my car registration payment before I got a late fee. I tried paying online, but the echeck wouldn't have made it on time. I wasn't aware I could get my car registration in person at the AAA. So now I got a payment processing. Would it be possible to cancel that check before it processes? Or should I wait and file for a refund? Thanks!

● UPDATE: Hopefully this will be helpful for anyone facing the same problem. My issue was solved automatically with the DMV system! They sent a check I believe 2-3 weeks after they noticed I had overpaying my registration. I don't know why several dmv employees would misdirect me and say it takes 6 months to resolve. I'm just glad I got my money back, and this whole problem is behind me.
