What is the oldest test XI ever fielded?

With the current Australian XI being almost exclusively 30+, it got me thinking about the oldest test XI ever assembled.

The Australian XI for Brisbane had an average age of 32.72. Really high, but not close to the highest I found.

England once fielded an XI with two of the only four players to play past 50, way back in the 30s against the Windies. That seemed like the natural starting point. The English XI was aged:

Gunn: 50

Sandham: 39

Wyatt: 28

Handren: 41

Ames: 24

O’Connor: 32

Calthorpe: 37

Haig: 42

Astill: 42

Rhodes: 52

Voce: 20

Average age: 37

If you exclude Voce, that jumps to 38.7 for the other 10.

As well as Rhodes being the oldest ever test cricketer, and England having at least 3 retirements post test that I can find (maybe more), that test is also notable for the first ever triple hundred by Sandham. Just two months before The Don’s great 334.

Can anyone find an XI with a higher average age? Good luck!
