Are LCI’s really dangerous?

My EDC is CA P365 with a red dot. I understand that an LCI can break and show empty while loaded and vice versa but I never rely on it anyway. But while researching someone on Reddit said “…the piece jammed between the slide and round and it slam fired the round in the chamber when the slide cycled forward without a trigger pull” on a shield 9mm. I wanted to know if this is possible or if it can make the gun not fire when needed? If not I’ll probably keep it as it doesn’t interfere with red dot and I will never rely on it
