Why is Node?!

So I've been doing the web dev course by Angela Yu on Udemy and I've started with node and express...and I'm not able to get like why are we even using them?...I've read many answers online but still not able to understand why and what are those things. Also need help in how can I study them better cuz it's going pretty tough.
