What do Doms look for in a sub?

I'm (33f) pretty new to all this but I'm really starting to see how difficult it is to find a good Dom, especially if you're also looking for romance too! I've already had some pretty dubious encounters with so-called Doms who don't seem to understand consent. I've learned my lesson at least!

I've recently met a Dom who seems great, really caring, respectful, encouraging of open communication, clear limits, good politics etc. I feel like I've struck gold, although we haven't met yet so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much.

It seems to be a pretty common thing for subs to find it difficult to meet good Doms but I'm wondering what it's like for Doms? What do you look for and is it rare you meet someone you connect with, as it seems to be for a lot of subs?

I know all Doms are individuals too but I would love to hear more about what you look for in a sub and how you go about finding it!
