Does glitchwalkers work with 3rd party servers?

I am an Xbox player, we have a world that’s run on Gportal’s server rental, and we haven’t had any luck with activating the dlc. My friend bought the dlc itself since we have the standard edition of the game. My assumption is that since none of us actually “own” the world, the dlc can’t be applied through one of us. Could this also be related to the current xbox issues? Thanks
