Without using identity politics or ad hominem, what beliefs cause you to identify as liberal or conservative?

I believe that people draw up imaginary lines without any critical reasoning as to why they identify with a political party. Most Americans, in my opinion, go with what they believe is popular at any given point in time. I do not believe most have a good fundamental reasoning of what a liberal or conservative is and that is why you find hypocrisy amongst voters and the issues they support. I believe it is why politicians never focus on policy either because the inflammatory attacks on one another lead to rage which is a more powerful, primal feeling that engages tribalism.

Prove me wrong. Define what economic and social policies you believe in and how that aligns with you politically. Bonus points if you can define rationally why you think it is better than the opposite party solutions.
