How do teachers feel towards students who self harm?

I was just wondering this because my mum found out I self harmed and she told me people at school would be disgusted by it :(

She also said when she sees people like that she gets a bad impression of them and thinks they should be locked up in a mental institution so now I’m scared others will view me that way :(
