What are you looking forward to with this administration?
As someone who voted Democrat this year, and with the inauguration having just happened, I’d like to open an honest and constructive dialogue. It seems clear to me that both political parties often resort to fear tactics to promote their agendas and widen the divide between Americans. However, I believe that the majority of us—whether we identify as conservative or liberal—fall somewhere in the middle, embracing more moderate viewpoints. Unfortunately, the loudest and most extreme voices on either side often dominate the conversation, shaping public perception in ways that don’t truly reflect the majority.
I genuinely want Donald Trump’s presidency to succeed. I want our nation to thrive, and I believe that with every administration—regardless of party affiliation—there’s an opportunity to make America a better, more equitable place to live. That said, I do have concerns about what this administration might mean for the future.
As a mother to a young daughter, I hope she grows up in a world where she can love whomever she chooses without fear of judgment or condemnation. I don’t believe anyone should be forced into religious practices, nor should religion become a mandated part of public education. As a woman, I want to feel safe, secure, and valued, and I want that same assurance for my daughter.
Admittedly, some of my fears may stem from political fear-mongering. However, when figures like Nick Fuentes are positioned as prominent voices within the MAGA movement, it makes me uneasy about the trajectory of women’s rights and broader societal values. While Trump has distanced himself from certain policies—such as those outlined in Project 2025—his connections to individuals associated with it still give me pause.
I also worry about the potential for mass deportations tearing families apart, the economic consequences of protectionist policies like tariffs, and the growing influence of Elon Musk in government affairs. The richest man in the world having such close ties to the White House strikes me as troubling, and I question the implications of that power dynamic.
Still, I want to believe that these fears won’t come to pass. More than anything, I want our country to heal and to find common ground. I want to raise children who are kind, who embrace diversity, and who lead with compassion. And I want to believe that most Americans share those same hopes for the future.
So, with that in mind, I ask: What are you hopeful or excited about in this new administration? Let’s keep this discussion free of hostility, condescension, or partisanship. Instead, I’d love for this to be an opportunity to find shared values and peace of mind—not just for myself but for anyone who may be reading.
We have so much more in common than we often realize. Let’s talk about it.
