A Complete Breakdown Of The Stolen Presets: How Acacia Narrowly Missed A Lawsuit After Stealing Over $6,000 Worth Of Work From Content Creator Ash Levi
Warning: This is a lot
First off, I highly recommend watching Ash Levi’s YouTube video explaining the situation in her own words if you haven’t yet, even if just the first 5 minutes: https://youtu.be/4_xld0mJrGo
I don’t think a lot of people really realize the severity of what happened in this situation, or how Acacia very easily could’ve faced a lawsuit if Ash decided to pursue one - which Ash has since said she regrets she didn’t do.
ICYMI: In Spring of 2021, Acacia was accused of, and eventually admitted to, buying a preset pack from creator Ash Levi with the sole intent of recreating and re-selling them for profit.
Once confronted by Ash over Instagram, Acacia initially denied stealing any of the presets, then admitted she did draw inspiration from Ash’s pack, then full on admitted she “became obsessed and really fucked up” and wanted to create something she knew “everyone would be obsessed with, too.”
Acacia attempted to prevent Ash from going public about the situation and tried to guilt her into feeling sorry for her because selling the stolen presets was how she was supporting her family and was afraid of what people online would say about it.
Then, after agreeing to it, then trying to back out if it, and then agreeing to it again, Acacia finally made a poor attempt at owning up to the situation publicly per Ash’s request, and told everyone via her Instagram story that she regrettably “found inspiration” from Ash’s work - instead of buying and reselling the presets with different names - then later announced she would issue refunds to everyone who bought the presets from her. But the majority of people who purchased the stolen pack were not notified or given a refund of any sort.
Ash also went public about the situation, and made YouTube video (link above) in July of 2021 fully explaining the situation in her own words and providing the screenshots of their conversation. After the video was posted, Acacia went radio silent online, and a few months later, announced she would be leaving the internet “indefinitely” and claiming that being an influencer had done an immense amount of damage to herself, her relationships, and her financial stability.
Acacia made a brief return to Instagram just a couple of months later in February 2022 to promote her new “business” RemadeMagic. She was selling Disney ears that she would make by hot gluing cardboard and used quilts together, selling them for $55 each. Many speculate this business was made with the intent of raising money to pay everyone back who had purchased the stolen preset packs. While her Etsy page has since been taken down, the Instagram page is still up but hasn’t been posted to since April 2022.
Acacia eventually made her full return to the internet in November 2022 after “leaving indefinitely” for just 11 months. Her first post was a series of screenshots of refunds being sent out (totaling over $6,000) and a lengthy post that (again) failed to state that she had stolen the presets from Ash Levi in the first place. Which Ash saw and rightfully called her out for.
It took Acacia nearly a year and a half after being exposed for selling the stolen presets to pay everybody back.
While Acacia hasn’t really revisited the whole situation since her return to Instagram, I think this can somewhat support the continued claims of Acacia stealing content from other online creators like Amber Fillerup and Quirine Brouwer.
I also found it necessary to include a somewhat recent screenshot of Acacia stating she’s been making 6 figures a year since she was a teenager, yet she *continually told Ash she couldn’t afford to pay back the thousands she owed from stolen work.
