The show is entertaning, But value stops there.
I enjoyed the ride. Dont get me wrong. But as a history major who grew up on a ranch in the american south west. I feel like the writers read a single Louis Lamour book and thought they knew anything about being a cattle rancher, cowboys, or pioneer. Nearly everything is wrong. How they drive cattle, how they deal with a tornado, how to cross a river, how he native people acted, and who the natives are. The acting is pretty good for the most part, but they made this Blond the main theme, and she is literally the worst actress I have ever seen. her fake accent does not match anyone else in her family. And she keeps doing really unrealistic things. Fath Hill was pretty, meh. But for a singer who is not an actress, not so bad. Tim Mcgraw was better, but essentially the same skill level. Sam Eliott and LaMonica Garret were hands down the best actors in the show. Needless to say, it was a fun watch. Some pretty cool lines. (Even though they were not time appropriate) still came off as awesome. However. They should have talked to a historian before writing this show. Since the shoshone people were nearly decimated 10 years prior to the time this show took place. Also, there had been several established pilgrim routes by this time. The oregon trail was established 40 years before this. The mormons had been taking people to Utah for a few years also. So river crossings and routes had long been established. So, there is no need to figure out where to cross a river. One of the biggest issues is the tornado episode. It was known that tornadoes were common throughout the Midwest. And breaking down your wagon and staking it down had been in practice since the 18th century. Also, there were pressures for cattle to prevent them from stampeeding That are used during weather like that they would never "just let the cows go." I want to go on. But I don't want to hate this show. It's kind of cool to watch the gin fights and stuff.
